Fall Recruitment

Fall Recruitment 2010

Fall recruitment is a time to meet new people, make friends, and join a sisterhood that will carry you to new places throughout your whole life.  Joining Greek Life at GW is a great way to enter a social circle that makes up 25% of the undergraduate student body.  By becoming a part of Greek Life, you will become a member of a national association that has the potential to be a great resource in the professional world.  Sigma Delta Tau has 99 chartered chapters with over 1,300 active members. Alumnae include Christy Carlson Romano, Joan Rivers, and Sherry Lansing.

Sigma Delta Tau is a sorority that respects the individuality of its members while creating a lasting bond full of fun and memories. Sigma Delta Tau was founded by confident, strong-minded, passionate women, and the Alpha Tau chapter members reflect these qualities.

As one of the leading sororities on campus, SDT  participates in all seasons of intramural sports, philanthropy events held by other fraternities and sororities, and hosts a number of social events such as hayride (a date party in the fall) and our annual philanthropy “SDT Speed Dating”. Sigma Delta Tau likes to be social with every sorority as well as fraternities. We have painted our nails with Phi Sigma Sigma, gone to midnight breakfasts with Alpha Delta Pi, and plan to make Mother’s Day cards with Alpha Epsilon Phi.

By accepting a bid to SDT, you will become a

part of one of the most prestigious organizations on

campus. Sigma Delta Tau is filled with leaders, young

politicians, writers, artists, actors, philanthropists, and

athletes. Almost every chapter member participates in

an organization outside of SDT, spreading our name and

influence throughout the GW campus.  Board members on

SMPA, Panhel and Hillel, Hatchet writers and cartoonists,

actors in Recess, members of College Republicans and

Democrats are just to name a few! We work hard and party

harder, and we cannot wait to meet all of you during recruitment!

Letter from VP Recruitment Jordyn Gottlieb

Hey ladies!

I am SO psyched about Fall Recruitment. It is nerve-racking and exhausting, but the day that bid is placed into your hand you realize that it was worth it! I can hardly begin to describe my amazing experiences that I’ve had since I’ve become a Sig Delt. I joined SDT at the University of Rhode Island (Alpha Beta chapter) and transferred to GW my sophomore year. A pledge sister at URI knew a member of SDT at GW and introduced us one of my first nights on campus. I went to the SDT floor in I-House to meet the sisters and the rest is history. I met my roommates and some of my best friends through my sorority, although I still have many close friends outside of SDT and Greek Life.

I’m from Cleveland, Ohio, and I play club rugby at GW. I love exploring D.C. and going to new places. When you meet me during recruitment, I am sure I will recommend some of my favorites! I absolutely love to eat almost anything, I love to socialize and going out. I am a big tennis fan and I also read a lot. I just started taking kickboxing this summer. True Blood is one of my favorite TV shows, but I also love The Tudors, Arrested Development, Desperate Housewives, and Pretty Little Liars.

I am passionate about SDT because I have experienced what a great social net work it is to have. The girls are awesome and even though I transferred I feel like I’ve been a part of this chapter since day 1. Every sister of SDT brings something unique to our chapter and I know every single one of them will always be there for me, no matter how close we are. My advice for Fall Recruitment? Go with your gut. What’s meant to happen will happen, and try it out! No matter what, you will meet new people and gain a new experience. After all, that’s what college is all about!

Can’t wait to meet you all!

J

Quotes from the sisters

“I came to GW leaving a close group of girl friends from high school behind. I wanted something similar.  Instead, I got a pledge class full of close girl friends [30] immediately, and 70 more after meeting the sisters. I didn’t think making so many close friends would be this easy.”

“I love being in SDT because everyone does their own thing. Yet, when we come together for chapter every week, meet for dinner as a pledge class or with my big, go to a social event or see someone wearing letters on the street, I feel like I’m a part of something. I write for the hatchet, play intramurals, and I’m on the Dean’s List. I can do all of this AND be in a sorority, something I think is unique to SDT.”

SDT has the best parties. Period.”
